Potion Pour 

Brew up a colourful potion, pour it out and watch it slide down our Halloween sculpture in a fascinating pattern. Be amazed as the colours of your potion mix with others to create something awesome and beautiful. Watch out - brewing potions can be a messy adventure!

Giant Spider Scare

Spiders, big and small, have invaded TELUS Spark guarding the secret mad science lab! Weed your way through giant spider webs, and if you're brave enough, meet the biggest spider of them all! Conquer your fears of spider and get curious about the mysteries behind what they're guarding.

Destroying a Pumpkin with Science

Watch the spectacle as one of our science professionals crushes, slices, smashes, obliterates, flattens or otherwise destroys our favourite orange halloween fruit, the Pumpkin.

Dr. Arachnid's Mad Science Show 

Noted scientist Dr. Arachnid has spent a lifetime studying spiders.  This obsession has led to madness. Spider Madness! Now the entire lab is being taken over by spiders and worse, Dr. Arachnid's creation of a monster spider has escaped!  The Doctor has gathered as many fellow scientists as possible to find a way to stop the spiders, find the monster, confront our fears and cure the madness.

Design Your Own Critter Bots - Open Studio Workshop

Recruiting all mad scientists! Use your creativity and imagination to help our team build a swarm of new critter bots. Discover the technology behind designing these pesky robotic bugs.

Get Batty - Alberta Bat Station 

Learn about Alberta Bats! How big are they? What do they eat? How many kinds of bats do we have in the province? The Bat Station will have bat specimens, bat models, examples of insects our bats eat and an example of a bat box that you can build for your backyard! A short presentation about bats in our province and around the globe will get you started on a lifetime of being a bat supporter. Come out and be a bat friend!

Creepy Curiosities - Lady Buggy

Come face-to-face with your FREAKIEST FEARS! Lady Buggy's hands-on bug table will change the way you look at bugs this halloween! Spiders, centipedes, scorpions & more! Discover how a tarantula moults. Experience how a dragonfly sees. Feel all fourteen tickly little legs of an isopod crawl across your palm.

Calgary Zoo educators are experts at turning fear and loathing into awe and enthusiasm for all creatures great and small.

The words “snakes” and “spiders” are enough to send shivers down some people's spines. Fear of these amazing animals is learned, and we can turn that fear into curiosity. Host Parasite Interaction Group

There is a creature whose life is interwoven with those of humans, our pets, as well as domestic livestock. These same creatures are inside our food and water! What are we talking about, you ask? Parasites! Parasites play a key role in the function and stability of natural ecosystems, and thus the conservation and sustainability of wildlife populations. Don’t be afraid, be curious and discover the unknown world of parasites.

Ever wonder ‘what’s up’ with wildlife in Alberta? Discover together as a family through staff and self-led Investigation Stations throughout the Discovery Centre at Bow Habitat Station. Be sure to check out upcoming “What’s Up With” events on the first Friday of each month.

Visit investigation stations and meet experts from the Alberta Community Bat Program in the Discovery Centre between 10 am and 3 pm to get hands-on with nocturnal species that call Alberta home. Join in a large group activity at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm to ‘fly’ with Alberta’s Creatures of the night. Activities are designed for learners ages 2 and up! All activities are included with Discovery Centre Admission.

November 2, 2018 – What’s up With Happy Hibernators

Visit investigation stations in the Discovery Centre between 10 am and 3 pm to get hands-on with Alberta’s Happy Hibernators! Join in a large group activity at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm to discover how bears are preparing for their ‘seasonal snooze.’ Activities are designed for learners ages 2 and up! All activities are included with Discovery Centre Admission.

December 7, 2018 – What’s up With Horns and Hooves

Visit investigation stations in the Discovery Centre between 10 am and 3 pm to get hands-on with wildlife that sport horns and/or hooves. Join in a large group activity at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm to ‘roam’ the province and discover just how horns and hooves help lots of different animals survive. Activities are designed for learners ages 2 and up! All activities are included with Discovery Centre Admission.

January 4, 2019 – What’s up With Urban Wildlife

Visit investigation stations in the Discovery Centre between 10 am and 3 pm to discover the wildlife that make their home right here in Calgary! Join in a large group activity at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm to discover how wildlife has adapted to city life. Hands-on activities are designed for learners ages 2 and up! All activities are included with Discovery Centre Admission.

February 1, 2019 – What’s up With Rodents

“Scurry’ from investigation station to investigation station in the Discovery Centre between 10 am and 3 pm and discover Alberta’s rodents! Join in a large group activity at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm. Hands-on activities are designed for learners ages 2 and up! All activities are included with Discovery Centre Admission.

March 1, 2019 – What’s up With Feathered Friends

Visit investigation stations in the Discovery Centre between 10 am and 3 pm to take flight with the hundreds of bird species in Alberta. Join in a large group activity at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm. Activities are designed for learners ages 2 and up! All activities are included with Discovery Centre Admission.

April 5, 2019 – What’s up With Bugs

Visit investigation stations in the Discovery Centre between 10 am and 3 pm to discover why bugs are the oldest wildlife species in Alberta. Join in a large group activity at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm to creep and crawl with local insects. Activities are designed for learners ages 2 and up! All activities are included with Discovery Centre Admission.

May 3, 2019 – What’s up With Reptiles & Amphibians

Visit investigation stations in the Discovery Centre between 10 am and 3 pm to find out for yourself if snakes, toads and salamanders are slimy! Join in a large group activity at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm to discover why the warm spring weather brings out some of Alberta’s cold-blooded critters!. Hands-on activities are designed for learners ages 2 and up! All activities are included with Discovery Centre Admission.

June 7, 2019 – What’s up With Wetlands

Visit investigation stations between 10 am and 3 pm to peek into the Wonderful World of Wetlands! Join in a large group activity at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm to march in the mud with the hundreds of species of plants and animals out and about in Alberta’s wetlands. Activities are designed for learners ages 2 and up! All activities are included with Discovery Centre Admission.
